'The Suicide Squad' Review: A Fun and Gory film that delivers, unlike its predecessor

The Suicide Squad is the craziest film you will see in 2021. It's a wild ride that takes the audience on a journey for its 2 hour and 12 minutes runtime. The gore in this film will not be duplicated in another comic book movie. Comic book movies usually cater to a younger audience. The Suicide Squad is different because the film is for an adult audience. There are no punches pulled with the language and violence. This film is definitely not for children and earns its R rating. There's one scene where Peacemaker, played by John Cena and Bloodsport, played by Idris Elba, are walking to their mission and start talking about dicks on a beach. That is the type of humor you get with this film and it creates a lot of funny moments.

The Suicide Squad stars Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena, Joel Kinnaman, Daniela Melchior, and Viola Davis. The film also features: Sylvester Stallone, Pete Davidson, David Dastmalchian, Nathan Fillion, Michael Rooker, and Mayling Ng. The film is directed by the marvelous James Gunn. Gunn's vision is clearly seen in this movie. It feels like he had total creative control and that is a good thing. Gunn does a good job of introducing the audience to these new characters and giving us a reason to care about them. My one concern going into the movie was Idris Elba's character Bloodsport. I love Idris Elbas as an actor, but I was concerned it was going to be a ripoff of Deadshot. Bloodsport is definitely not a ripoff of Deadshot and has his own unique story. John Cena is great as Peacemaker. I can see why HBO Max decided to do a series on the character because there's still more to explore with the character. Sylvester Stallone as King Shark. King Shark is a badass and has some of the nastiest kills in the film. There's one character that stole the show and it might surprise you.

Daniela Melchior's portrayal of Ratcatcher 2 is my favorite character in the film. She is the heart of the film and makes the film better. In the film, you find out why she is the Ratcatcher 2. There's a running gag in the film about why she likes rats. When she explains why she is the Ratcatcher 2, you understand her reason and it's more emotional than you can anticipate.

One character disappointed me throughout the film. That character was Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie. Robbie is great as Harley Quinn but it feels like she had no purpose in the film. She says her crazy shit that brings funny moments to the film, bu other than that she did nothing for me in the film. It's a shame because I really like her character but I think Gunn wanted to feature the newer characters more.

Let's talk about the villain in this movie Starro. Starro was created from Project Starfish. I found Starro to be a vanilla villain. It's a huge starfish that wrecks havoc. There is one real villain and her name is Amanda Waller. Waller is the brainchild behind Task force X. Her behavior throughout the film was very interesting. She threatened Bloodsport's daughter with prison time because she stole something. She has a button that kills all the characters on the mission and she used it throughout the film. There's something that's revealed at the end of the film that confirms my theory she is the main villain. I won't spoil it but it's a big plot reveal and its ramifications lead to other DCEU content.

Is The Suicide Squad the best DCEU movie? It's hard to say because Wonder Woman and Man of Steel deliver the same great content. The Suicide Squad is definitely the wildest movie in the DCEU. The film delivers on good action, humor, and story, which its predecessor did not have. You will have a good time watching this movie, I guarantee it.
