Black Panther 3: Release Date, Denzel Washington, and Massive T’Challa II Casting Revealed

Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic-Con panel ignited excitement, from Ghost Rider news to exclusive footage of Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday. It ended on a high note with Ryan Coogler coming on stage, confirming he was returning to direct Black Panther III. Coogler is coming off directing Sinners, which was nominated for several Oscars and won Best Original Screenplay. So far, returning from the previous Black Panther movies are Letitia Wright and Winston Duke as Shuri and M’Baku. However, the big casting news was David Jonsson taking on the role of T’Challa’s son, T’Challa II/Toussant. The character was previously introduced in the mid-credits scene of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as a kid portrayed by Divine Love Konadu-Sun.

David Jonsson is known for his roles in shows like Deep State, Industry, Murder is Easy, and The Road Trip. In recent years, he has been in movies such as Alien: Romulus in 2024 and The Long Walk in 2025. Jonsson’s performance in The Long Walk received a lot of praise from critics. Ryan Coogler said at Comic Con that T’Challa II will be coming of age in Black Panther III. When Jonsson took the stage, he received applause as he thanked Kevin Feige and Coogler for the opportunity and expressed his excitement.

Black Panther III is one of many movies coming to the MCU after the upcoming 2027 movie Avengers: Secret Wars, along with Ghost Rider and the untitled X-Men movie. Unlike those movies, however, Black Panther III so far has a release date, which is December 15, 2028. Coogler also said the movie would be filmed in 70 mm. With rumors of Avengers: Secret Wars being a soft reboot keeping many elements from the MCU before Avengers: Doomsday, the Black Panther series seems to be one of the elements continuing with its current set of characters. Of course, fans will theorize what the results of the upcoming Avengers movies will be and what it means for the country of Wakanda and the Black Panther characters. Also in the cast is Denzel Washington, who said in an interview a couple of years ago that Ryan Coogler was writing him a role in Black Panther III. So far it’s unknown what role that is, but Washington also said in that same interview that it would likely be one of his last roles before retiring.
