Leonardo DiCaprio will star as religious cult leader Jim Jones in MGM's upcoming film. The film will be written by Scott Rosenberg. No director has been confirmed for the film yet and a release date has not been announced.

Jim Jones was known as the leader of the Peoples Temples religious group. Jones was the man behind the November 1978 mass suicide at his Jonestown settlement. Jones had his followers drink cyanide-adulterated punch.

This won't be the first time DiCaprio has played a bad guy. He played the villain in Quentin Taratntino's Django Unchained. He is set to play another villain in Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon. That film is set to release on October 14, 2022.
