Christian Bale is known for being one of the most versatile actors in Hollywood history. He can play any role given to him and more likely than not, he will be the actor in the film. He can play the hero or the villain and will do anything for a role. His commitment to his work is what makes fans love his films. Here are our top 10 Christian Bale films.


10) Vice (2018)

Vice is based on the true story of former Vice President Dick Cheney. Cheney is a controversial American figure that was Vice President in the George W. Bush administration. Bale stars as Cheney in the film and changed his whole look. He shaved his head and gained 45 pounds to achieve the physique of Cheney. Bale also did a fantastic job playing Cheney making this his 10th best film.


9) The Machinist (2005)

The Machinist is Bale's most dramatic transformation. Bale dropped over 60 pounds to play the role and was said to be less than 120 pounds. When you see him on screen, you can't help but feel a chill up your spine. Bale's dramatic transformation confirmed to fans that Bale will do anything to make a movie great and that's what he did for The Machinist.


8) The Big Short (2015)

The Big Short is based on the true story of the collapse of the U.S. economy and how three men took advantage of the collapse. Bale plays Michael Burry who was one of the men who profited from the downfall of the economy. The Big Short is an interesting comedic look at how these men profited in one of the worst times in American history.


7) The Fighter (2010)

In The Fighter, Bale gives one of his best performances. Bale plays a supporting but important role in the film. He plays Dickie Eklund, the brother and trainer of boxer Micky Ward. Based on a true story, the film shows us the heroic rise of Micky Ward in the boxing world. Bale was so good in this film that he won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.


6) Batman Begins (2005)

The first Batman film on this list is also the first Batman film Christian Bale starred in. This film laid the groundwork for what Batman fans could expect with Bale as Bruce Wayne. Bale did not disappoint fans as the caped crusader. Directed by the great Christopher Nolan, Batman Begins is one of the best origin comic book films of all time.


5) The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

The end of Bale's time as Batman did not disappoint fans. The Dark Knight Rises is one of the best endings to a trilogy. Surrounded by a great villain in Bane (Tom Hardy) and a romantic anti-hero in Catwoman (Anne Hathaway), Bale ended his Batman career with a film Batman fans can be proud of and one of the most satisfying endings in film history.


4) Ford v Ferrari (2019)

Arguably one of the most underrated films in history, Ford v Ferrari is a film that will leave you on the edge of your seat throughout its runtime. Based on a true story, Bale plays the legendary Ken Miles as he tries to win the 24 hour Le Mans against Ferrari. What makes this movie great is its intense racing scenes combined with great storytelling that makes the viewer emotionally invested in the outcome. Ford v Ferrari is one of the best sports movies of the 21st century.


3) American Psycho (2000)

American Psycho is the film that made Bale a movie star. Playing the charismatic psychopath Patrick Bateman, Bale showed Hollywood that he was read to be the lead man for years to come. American Psycho is not only a fantastic film but it is arguably Bale's most popular film to date.


2) The Prestige (2006)

The Prestige is one of those movies you have to see before you die. The film follows two magicians who engage in a rivalry with Bale playing one magician and Hugh Jackman playing the other. It's great storytelling, combined with its great acting and one of the best twists of the 21st century make The Prestige one of the best films I have ever watched.

Was there really any other choice? The Dark Knight is the pinnacle of comic book films. The Dark Knight is led by Bale but its greatness is from Heath Ledger who plays The Joker. The interactions between Batman and Joker are some of the best interactions ever in film history. Heath Ledger gives arguably the greatest performance ever in film history. The Dark Knight is a perfect movie and that is why it is #1 on this list.
