After last year’s first DC Fandome online event was a success showing many upcoming DC projects, DC is launching a second Fandome on October 16, 2021. While this year’s event will be shorter than last year’s Fandome, there will be enough new content to celebrate. Other announcements outside of film and TV like video games will also get attention, but the movies and shows will be the highlights. These are my thoughts on what will be shown and announced this year. Nothing is a hundred percent confirmed, but based on the teasers and rumors, these are my predictions.
Two likely trailers to come out will be The Batman and Black Adam. The Batman is the next DC movie to come out with a release date of March 4, 2022. Last year at DC Fandome, The Batman trailer ended the event on a high note, even though only twenty-five percent of the filming was completed. WB and DC will likely release a new trailer that has new footage to top it. Black Adam will likely have a teaser trailer, showing Dwyane Johnson in costume and possibly other characters such as Doctor Fate and Hawkman.
Peacemaker, while an HBO Max show, will likely have a trailer. John Cena’s performance as Peacemaker in The Suicide Squad got a lot of praise, so fans of the film will hopefully get to see more. It’s too early to tell if The Flash will get a trailer as the film recently wrapped up filming. It’s likely though we will get cast and crew interviews as well as more plot information and concept art. Movies currently in production such as Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Shazam! Fury of the Gods will likely have behind-the-scenes interviews. If The Flash does not get a trailer, it is unlikely Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Shazam! Fury of the Gods will get a trailer. We could find out a little bit about the plot for both films to get an idea of what to expect.
It is possible to get more casting information for The Flash, as well as learning if any other heroes will be joining Flash, Supergirl, Keaton’s Batman, and Affleck’s Batman. With rumors coming out that The Flash could go back to some of the previous DCEU movies, it wouldn’t be a surprise if other heroes from those movies make at least a cameo. Announced HBO Max movies such as Batgirl and Blue Beetle could also get casting announcements. One casting announcement fans are hoping for is JK Simmons possibly returning to play Commissioner Gordon in Batgirl. After announcing a Static Shock film is in predevelopment at last year’s Fandome, we could find out who will finally play Static.
With only one DC movie in Shazam! Fury of the Gods confirmed for 2023, it's likely we’ll find out release dates for the HBO Max exclusive movies Batgirl and Blue Beetle. Fans shouldn’t expect a Wonder Woman 3 announcement yet or at least a release date as director Patty Jenkins is focused on her upcoming Star Wars film Rogue Squadron. One project that could be announced is the Ayer Cut of the 2016 film Suicide Squad. After Zack Snyder’s Justice League won many over earlier this year, fans are hoping WB and HBO Max will release David Ayer’s version of Suicide Squad after he confirmed he had a different vision from the one shown back in 2016. Even if the cut comes out in the future, it is unknown if it will be announced at Fandome.
The Static Shock film for HBO Max is a likely project that could get an estimated release. One project for HBO Max that has been mentioned previously that could get confirmation is Booster Gold. Another likely project is a DC project tied with The Suicide Squad director James Gunn. Gunn recently confirmed he has another DC project after Peacemaker. It could likely tie into The Suicide Squad, but nothing else has been said about it. It will likely have a release date after 2023 due to Gunn working on the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. It is unknown if it’s another movie or show.
Regardless of what is announced at DC Fandome, there will likely be something for all DC fans. What do you hope to see or get announced at DC Fandome? Let me know in the comments down below.
