2025 was one of the best years for movies in the 2020s and is finally done. Now we’re into 2026, and a lot of exciting, highly anticipated movies are coming out. Here are my top 10 most anticipated movies of 2026.
10. Coyote vs. Acme
The Looney Tunes remain cultural icons and recently had a couple of movies out after it looked like they never would be released. After The Day The Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie came out and entertained audiences, a movement to save the originally canceled Coyote vs. Acme movie began, and fans won. A blend of animation and live-action, similar to Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Space Jam, Coyote vs. Acme will be a legal comedy with Wile E. Coyote taking on Acme in a lawsuit. His lawyer will be played by Will Forte, and joining him in the cast are John Cena, Lana Condor, and P.J. Byrne, with longtime Looney Tunes voice actor Eric Bauza voicing many animated characters. Coyote vs. Acme is directed by Dave Green and is currently scheduled to come out on August 28. 2026.
9. The Social Reckoning
Biographical movies tend to be interesting and among the best in any movie year. Back in 2010, The Social Network was one of those amazing biographical movies and is still one of the best ever made. The Social Reckoning looks to be a companion piece to it, covering the 2021 Facebook leaks done by whistleblower Frances Haugen. Mikey Madison, who won the award for Best Actress at last year’s Oscars, will play Haugen. Instead of Jesse Eisenberg playing Mark Zuckerberg as he did in The Social Network, Jeremy Strong will be playing Zuckerberg this time, with Jeremy Allen White and Bill Burr joining the cast. Regardless of whether or not The Social Reckoning tops or is even as good as The Social Network, the themes the movie will likely tackle will be interesting and give audiences a better understanding of Facebook and Zuckerberg. The Social Reckoning is directed by Aaron Sorkin, who wrote the screenplay for The Social Network, and is currently scheduled to come out on October 9, 2026.
8. Toy Story 5
While some fans question if a Toy Story 5 is needed, some also can’t say no to having more Woody, Buzz, Jessie, and the rest of the gang. After the emotional ending of Toy Story 4, it will be interesting to see how Pixar tries to top it. The toys will be dealing with Bonnie having a new tablet called Lilypad. Also involved in the plot are an army of malfunctioning Buzz Lightyears. Toy Story movies are always fun and provide an emotional punch. It’s a matter of how they will pull it off again. Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, and Joan Cusack return to voice Woody, Buzz, and Jessie. Toy Story 5 is directed by Andrew Stanton and is currently scheduled to come out on June 19, 2026.
7. Supergirl
The second movie in James Gunn’s DCU has Milly Alcock as Superman’s cousin Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, celebrating her 23rd birthday and traveling in space with her dog Krypto, who was introduced in last year’s Superman. Supergirl will cover the character’s dark origin and tragic backstory that also features a revenge quest that will differentiate her from Superman. Jason Momoa returns to DC movies, but this time playing Lobo, a character fans wanted him to play. Joining Alcock and Momoa are Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. Supergirl looks to be a space adventure different from Superman, which was taking place on Earth, and could expand on Krypton’s destruction. Supergirl is directed by Craig Gillespie and is currently scheduled to come out on June 26, 2026.
6. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
The Hunger Games franchise is finally showing the 50th Hunger Games, which was the biggest Hunger Games with 48 tributes thrown into the arena, including Katniss and Peeta’s mentor, Haymitch Abernathy, back when he was a tribute. Based on the recent novel Sunrise on the Reaping, the upcoming Hunger Games adventure looks to capture the biggest Hunger Games ever written, with an arena full of obstacles including a volcano. Haymitch’s story, from how he was selected, his games, and the aftermath of the games, is one of the most tragic, so fans should expect one of the most emotional movies in the franchise. Joseph Zada will play Haymitch, along with Elle Fanning playing Effie Trinket, Ralph Fiennes playing President Snow, and Jesse Plemons playing Plutarch Heavensbee. Also joining the cast are Mckenna Grace, Whitney Peak, Ben Wang, Maya Hawk, Kelvin Harrison Jr., and Lili Taylor. The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is directed by longtime director of the series, Francis Lawrence, and is currently scheduled to come out on November 20, 2026.
5. Werwulf
Horror has been on a great run in the 2020s, especially if Robert Eggers is directing the movie. After his amazing Nosferatu movie from 2024, fans are looking forward to his take on a werewolf period piece. Horrors want a great werewolf horror movie, and Eggers could deliver. Not too much is known other than it takes place in 13th century England and stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson. As mentioned before, Werwulf is directed by Robert Eggers and is currently scheduled to come out on December 25, 2026.
4. Spider-Man: Brand New Day
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is one of the two MCU movies set to release in 2026, as well as the sequel to Spider-Man: No Way Home and the last MCU movie before Avengers: Doomsday. Spider-Man: Brand New Day will reveal what Peter Parker has been up to after being forgotten by everyone and fully embracing his role as Spider-Man. Returning alongside Tom Holland are Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Michael Mando, who will finally suit up as the villain Scorpion, along with other MCU actors Mark Ruffalo and Jon Bernthal as Bruce Banner/Hulk and Punisher, marking Punisher’s first appearance in an MCU movie after only being in shows. Joining the cast are Sadie Sink in a mysterious role and Marvin Jones III as Tombstone. Spider-Man movies are always big, and this sounds like another big movie for our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and is currently scheduled to come out on July 31, 2026.
3. Dune: Part III
The Dune movies based on Frank Herbert’s novels have been one of the best reviewed franchises of the 2020s so far. Dune: Part III will continue the story of Paul Atreides, played by Timothee Chalamet, who is now the Padishah Emperor after the events of Dune: Part II. Denis Villeneuve has acknowledged the movie will have significant differences from the books similar to the previous movies. Dune: Part III will adapt from Dune Messiah. Also returning are Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Jason Momoa, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, and Anya Taylor-Joy, with Robert Pattinson joining the cast. These movies are well-made and some of the best modern-day science fiction movies out there, so there is a lot of hope that Dune: Part III will be just as great. As previously mentioned, Dune: Part III is directed by Denis Villeneuve and is currently scheduled to come out on December 18, 2026.
2. Avengers: Doomsday
The fifth Avengers movie looks to be one of the biggest MCU movies yet, with a large cast from longtime MCU stars like Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, and Chris Evans, to newer MCU stars like Florence Pugh, Pedro Pascal, and Simu Liu, and original X-Men actors like Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, and Ian McKellen appearing, with more stars rumored. Robert Downey Jr. also returns to the MCU, but will play Doctor Doom. The marketing for Avengers: Doomsday has started, and fans are excited with the teasers revealing Steve Rogers is returning, a darker tone involving the X-Men, and Thor is bracing for the battle of his life. Avengers: Doomsday is directed by Joe and Anthony Russo and is scheduled to come out on December 18, 2026.
1. The Odyssey
The most anticipated movie of 2026 is Christopher Nolan’s upcoming epic, The Odyssey, which is based on Homer’s ancient Greek epic. Nolan is coming off winning Best Director a couple of years ago at the Oscars for Oppenheimer and looks to deliver another excellent movie with a big cast. Matt Damon, who previously worked on Interstellar and Oppenheimer with Nolan, stars as Odysseus, who is trying to return home after the Trojan Wars. Joining him are Anne Hathaway, who also worked with Nolan in the past, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya, Benny Safdie, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, and Mia Goth. Nolan has tackled many genres and always delivered, so fans are excited to see how he takes on an epic fantasy like The Odyssey. As mentioned before, The Odyssey is directed by Christopher Nolan and is currently scheduled to come out on July 17, 2026.
