The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is the first fully animated Looney Tunes movie originally meant for Max, but was purchased and distributed by Ketchup Entertainment for a theatrical release. It stars Looney Tunes characters Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, and Petunia Pig, and is about Daffy and Porky working to save their childhood home. They get jobs at a bubblegum factory that gets tangled up in an alien invasion plot, where the gum turns people who chew on it into zombies. The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is also a 2D animated movie, a rarity in theaters these days.

I grew up watching Looney Tunes and always enjoyed them. From the classic cartoons from the 1930s to 1960s, to recent shows like The Looney Tunes Show and movies like the 1996 classic Space Jam. The characters of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and others have entertained people of all ages for decades. I’m always excited about a new Looney Tunes project. The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is another fun, hilarious Looney Tunes project.

The best thing about The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is the humor. The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is a funny movie that had the adults in the theater laughing more than the kids at times. The classic Looney Tunes humor blended with a great handle on modern-day humor managed to pull through. The main characters Daffy Duck and Porky Pig are entertaining and balance each other well. Daffy delves into his traditional looney side and less of his grouchy, antagonistic side. Both characters are voiced by Eric Bauza, a voice actor known for voicing many Looney Tunes characters for the last few years. While not as iconic as the man of 1000 voices, Mel Blanc, Bauza captures the spirit and voices of these amazing characters.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is a traditional 2D animation movie that looks amazing. The designs of the characters look great and the creativity is on full display. Certain music sequences go all out with the animation, particularly this one sequence while Daffy and Porky are working. Along with being entertaining, this movie has a great emotional story involving Daffy and Porky doing all they can to save their childhood home. You can understand why Porky sometimes gets frustrated with Daffy. The movie’s third act does feel rushed after a specific plot twist happened but it doesn’t ruin this great movie.

It’s a shame WB had little to no faith in this movie and sold it off to Ketchup Entertainment. It’s also a shame that this movie had little to no marketing. This is one of the best Looney Tunes projects to come out in the last several years. I would love to see more Looney Tunes movies like this, starring other iconic characters like Bugs Bunny, Sylvester and Tweety, Elmer Fudd, and others. It’s frustrating that the Coyote vs Acme movie got canned, but it’s looking more likely that Ketchup Entertainment might purchase it.

Overall, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is a looney great time. Daffy Duck and Porky Pig are funny as always. The humor and emotional moments balance each other so well. The traditional animation is creative and doesn’t disappoint. My final grade for The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie is an A-. Looney Tunes fans, as well as audiences of all ages, will enjoy this movie, and I highly recommend it.
