Top 5 Most Anticipated Films for the Second Half of 2022

2022 is halfway done and a lot of the most anticipated films of 2022 have come out so far. Movies like The Batman lived up to the hype. Movies like Top Gun: Maverick surprised everyone. Movies like Morbius disappointed. We still have several months to go before 2022 is done and still have plenty of movies to watch. Here are my top five most anticipated films.

5. Shazam! Fury of the Gods

The fifth most anticipated film is Shazam! Fury of the Gods from the DC Extended Universe. Shazam! from 2019 was a pleasant surprise and I’m hoping Shazam! Fury of the Gods continues the family dynamic from the first film. I like Zachary Levi as Shazam and look forward to seeing new cast members Rachel Zegler, Helen Mirren, and Lucy Liu in the film. Shazam! Fury of the Gods is directed by David Sandberg and will come out on December 21.

4. Black Adam

My fourth most anticipated movie is Black Adam, which is the next film in the DCEU. We will finally get to see classic DC characters such as Doctor Fate and Hawkman will finally appear on the big screen. After fifteen years of being cast as Black Adam, but no movie coming out, we will finally get to see Dwyane Johnson as Black Adam. One thing DC does better than Marvel is finding ways to give their villains and anti-heroes their films like Joker and The Suicide Squad. Black Adam is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and will come out on October 21.

3. Clerks III

Next on the list is Clerks III, the next film in both the Clerks franchise and the View Askewniverse. Clerks is one of my all-time favorite films and Clerks II is one of my favorite comedy sequels, so this film has me excited. Clerks III will show Randal Graves, once again played by Jeff Anderson, making a movie with his best friend Dante Hicks, once again played by Brian O’Halloran after Randal suffers a heart attack. Also returning from the previous Clerks films are Rosario Dawson as Becky, Trevor Fehrman as Elias, Jason Mewes, and Kevin Smith as Jay and Silent Bob. Clerks III is by Kevin Smith and will come out on September 13.

2. Babylon

My second most anticipated film coming out this year is Babylon. Babylon stars a big cast of Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Tobey Maguire, Samara Weaving, and Li Jun Li. The film will be about how Hollywood transitioned from silent films to talkies. One of the youngest directors in the business, Damien Chazelle has already directed two fantastic films Whiplash and La La Land. This film has the potential to be as phenomenal as those films. Babylon is directed by Chazelle and will come out on December 25.

1. Avatar: The Way of Water

My most anticipated film coming out later this year is Avatar: The Way of Water. This is the sequel to the 2009 film Avatar, which is the highest-grossing film worldwide. While I don’t think Avatar is the greatest film ever, I always enjoyed it and look forward to seeing what the sequel will do. Avatar: The Way of Water will bring back Sam Worthington as Jake Sully, who looks to protect his family as a member of the Na’vi. The film will also star Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Kate Winslet. Avatar broke new ground with its special effects work, so it’ll be interesting to see what else the sequel can do. Avatar: The Way of Water is directed by James Cameron and will come out on December 16.
